Taming the Stress Monster in Your Life

Stress—it’s something we all face at one point or another. Whether it stems from academic pressure, workplace expectations, or personal relationships, stress can feel like an overwhelming monster that’s impossible to defeat. The good news? You’re not alone, and there are strategies to help you manage it effectively.
Recognizing the Stress Monster
Stress often creeps into our lives during high-pressure situations like exams, deadlines, or personal conflicts. While it might seem unavoidable, understanding its origins and effects is the first step toward managing it.
My Own Stress Battle
During my first internship, I experienced significant stress, much of it self-imposed. I set unrealistically high expectations for myself, even though no one else was demanding them. At the same time, I was dealing with a difficult situation with a close friend, which added another layer of emotional strain. The combination of these pressures left me feeling trapped and overwhelmed.
It wasn’t until I identified the sources of my stress that I could begin to address them. This realization taught me that while stress is a natural response, letting it take control isn’t an option.

Deep breathing might seem basic, but it’s incredibly effective. Just a few minutes of focused breathing can reduce anxiety and help you approach problems with a clear mind. - Identifying the Root Cause
Stress often feels like an unmanageable cloud, but pinpointing its source can make it more manageable. For me, acknowledging that my stress came from both my internship and personal relationships allowed me to tackle each issue individually. - Allow Yourself to Cry
Crying is often seen as a weakness, but it’s actually a powerful emotional release. Letting yourself cry when you need to can provide immense relief and help you process your feelings.
